The owners of the original manor house, set in extensive gardens on the brow of a hill in residential Funchal, will have enjoyed the same magnificent views - albeit with fewer buildings in sight - as present-day guests at this member of the Charming Hotels of Madeira.

Inside the manor are the classical-style gourmet restaurant with covered veranda and open-air terrace, the presidential suite and, lower down, the spa and pool complex. This includes a heated indoor pool leading to a hanging outdoor pool, another outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, Turkish and Vichy baths, fitness and relaxation rooms.

The décor of the lounge and cocktail-bar reflects the grace of a bygone era. In the grounds there are water, palm and herb gardens - the kitchen makes extensive use of these. Guests on half board may eat at any of the restaurants of Charming Hotels of Madeira at no extra charge.

The air-conditioned/heated bedrooms are decorated in limed oak and have Wilton carpets, bathrobes and slippers, as well as cable TV, mini-bar, free safe and balcony or terrace.

Rooms with views of the ocean below, junior and deluxe suites (the latter with a separate lounge) are available. We regret the location is not suitable for those with walking problems.
