Overlooking a long beach near the estuary and bird sanctuary of Alvor, the Pestana Dom João II Village is a well-known and much-loved hotel complex that has recently been refurbished.

There is the Dom João II Hotel and other accommodation buildings. It has a large outdoor pool (heated from November to March), and the park in which it stands has another heated indoor and an unheated outdoor pool by the beach. Several bars and restaurants in the complex make for variety, and the entertainment includes folklore shows, cabaret and live music.

Horse riding, tennis and a driving range are available nearby and guests enjoy some very favourable offers at the Pestana golf courses (15 km). A twice-daily courtesy bus runs to Portimão.

The hotel is close to the fishing village of Alvor with its bars and restaurants and, for the dedicated, the Algarve's largest windsurfing centre.
