Playa De Formentor

Mallorca's Formentor Peninsula is much visited by holidaymakers in Majorca, and is perhaps Majorca's best example of dramatic effect caused by mountains meeting the sea. This stunning part of Northern Mallorca at the northern end of the Serra de Tramuntana ia essentially a long headland of 12 miles.

Scenery is indeed mind-bogglingly spectacular, with steep cliffs which reach 400 metres in some places. You can take a little footpath up to the Cap de Formentor from the road which goes to Mirador des Colomer. This really is a must do if you're in this part of Majorca.

Once at the top, panoramic views are to be had out to sea and of the El Colomer rock. This Peninsula has long been featured in the work of poets and artists. The trip is best taken either early morning, or late afternoon to avoid crowds. There's a very attractive lighthouse as well on the Cap de Formentor.
